About
Strategy rooted in how organizations actually work.

I'm Sam Barber, a strategy and operations leader based in Santa Cruz, California.
I help organizations create clarity in complex work: the priorities, systems, metrics, and operating rhythms that turn strategy into sustainable execution.
Before starting Samuel Barber Strategy, I spent six years in health technology designing planning systems, operating cadences, prioritization frameworks, scorecards, and cross-functional execution structures for senior leadership audiences. I began my career in management consulting, where I learned how to map processes, interview stakeholders, facilitate change, and translate complex ideas into practical operating models.
I tend to think like a builder. Alongside this advisory practice, I am developing Folio, an applied climate infrastructure concept focused on making climate-positive commerce more visible, credible, and meaningful. That work reflects the same pattern that runs through much of my career: understanding complex systems, finding the right structure, and turning ambiguous ideas into something people can use.
Today, I am applying that foundation to strategic sustainability, AI readiness, and the operating systems organizations need to make meaningful progress.
Background
Strategy & operations
Six years in health technology building the operating infrastructure that makes strategy real — planning systems, prioritization frameworks, leadership cadences, scorecards, and cross-functional execution structures. Before that, management consulting: process mapping, stakeholder facilitation, and turning complex problems into practical operating models.
Sustainability
Sustainability Excellence Associate, certified 2025. Climatebase Fellow, 2026. Founder of Folio, an applied climate infrastructure concept exploring how integrity-first climate attribution can make climate-positive commerce more meaningful and verifiable. Working at the intersection of strategy and systems-level climate thinking.
AI-enabled work
Applied AI tools in real strategic and operational contexts — not as a technology project, but as a way to create clarity and momentum in ambiguous, information-dense work. Interested in how organizations adopt AI in ways that genuinely improve decision quality, not just add tools.
Location
Based in Santa Cruz, California
I work independently from Santa Cruz, with clients and collaborators across the Bay Area and beyond. Engagements are remote-friendly and do not require a local presence, though I travel to collaborate in person when it is useful.
